MOSCOW (AP) Police have detained about 30 football fans in the Russian city of Yaroslavl after breaking up a violent incident at a stadium with water cannon.
Russian news reports say the trouble, including fireworks and fights, forced the Wednesday match between Shinnik Yaroslavl and Spartak Moscow to be halted for about a half-hour. Spartak won the game 1-0 and advanced to the Russia Cup quarterfinals.
The detained fans may be held by police until morning, the state news agency RIA Novosti cited police spokesman Alexander Shikhanov as saying. There were no immediate indications of whether charges would be filed.
The disorder took place in the section where Spartak fans were seated, news reports said, but it was not clear what triggered the violence.
