The five-time world darts champion, 59, faced a massive backlash over his tweets.
Jeremy Vine wrote: '(a) Footballers bravely speak about childhood abuse they suffered (b) Thousands of people express solidarity and sympathy (c) Eric Bristow.'
Steve Heighway said: 'Paedos are not gay.. they are sexual predators who will attack anyone vulnerable. They didn't talk because of the shame of it.'
Dino Nocivelli posted: 'Your tweet just shows how much you don't understand about the psych impact of #childabuse. Using the word "poof" is wrong too.'
Sam Taylor added: 'The word "poof" is a derivative insult regarding gay men and totally antithetical to pedophiles. Linking the two is offensive.'
Despite the anger he caused, he stuck by his tweets, saying: 'U people replying don't twist what i sent out, i tell the truth if u dont like it tough.
'No i am not i am saying they should have got their own back, the way i was brought up that's what we done.
'Sorry meant paedo not poof.'
Bristow is currenty a pundit for Sky Sports on their darts coverage. Sky Sports was contacted for comment.
Former Crewe Alexandra coach and scout Bennell was found unconscious and not breathing at the Novotel Hotel in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, on Friday night and was taken to the nearby Lister Hospital.
He remains at the hospital and is continuing to receive treatment.
The incident happened just hours after four former footballers went on television and claimed they had been abused by 62-year-old Bennell, who was previously jailed for molesting young players.
Hours before the incident, former Crewe footballers Jason Dunford and Chris Unsworth revealed that Bennel abused them. Mr Unsworth said he was 'raped between 50 and 100 times' but never told anyone until this week.
And on Monday night, Greater Manchester Police became the fifth force to launch an investigation into historical sex abuse in youth football.
The force said it had received a 'number of calls' following recent media coverage.
Steve Walters, who was Crewe's youngest ever player, broke down on live TV after revealing that he had never been to the police about Bennell's abuse and wants him arrested.
Bennell had been living under his new name, Richard Jones, on an estate in Milton Keynes after being released from his third spell in prison in 2015.
Neighbours said that he told them he was a software engineer and had no idea he was a convicted paedophile until former footballer Andy Woodward came forward last week to say he was abused while a youth player at Crewe.
Thames Valley Police moved Bennell from his bungalow last Thursday after neighbours complained to the local council and demanded he was evicted.
