TURIN, Italy (AP) Czech Republic coach Michal Bilek has tendered his resignation after a 2-1 defeat in Italy left the team with little chance of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
Immediately after the match on Tuesday, Bilek says "I wanted to stay with the team as long as there was a chance to go to the World Cup. But now that there's not any more, I'm offering my resignation."
The 48-year-old Bilek says he is not sure if he will stay on for the final two qualifying matches, adding "I've offered my resignation, now it depends on the president."
Bilek was appointed after the team's failure to qualify for the 2010 World Cup, and he steered it to the quarterfinals of the 2012 European Championship.
