WIGAN, England (AP) Owen Coyle has become the third manager from English football's second-tier League Championship to lose his job in 48 hours after Wigan announced his departure following a run of home losses.
Wigan, which was relegated from the Premier League last season days after winning the FA Cup, says Coyle left by mutual consent after about six months in the post.
The northern club has slumped to three home losses in the past nine days to fall to 14th in the 24-team League Championship and to the brink of elimination from the Europa League.
Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday, who are the bottom two teams in the division, fired their managers over the weekend.
In the 2012-13 season, more than half of League Championship clubs changed managers.
