BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) The president of Argentine first division club Colon resigned on Tuesday, a day after players went on strike and refused to play a match against Atletico Rafaela because they had not been paid.
Players say they are owed between three and seven months' salary, and one player Bolivian Ronald Raldes headed home earlier this month.
Club vice president Ruben Moncagatta announced the resignation of president German Lerche.
Many Argentine clubs are deeply in debt, including the most famous names like Boca Juniors, River Plate and Independiente.
The Argentine Football Association has not issued an official statement, but under rules Colon is expected to forfeit the match.
