GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) Anthony Stokes and Kris Commons scored as Celtic defeated Motherwell 2-0 to move to the top of the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
Putting aside the disappointment of their narrow defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League, Celtic got off to a strong start as Stokes opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a strike from a tight angle after goalkeeper Lee Hollis failed to clear the ball.
Commons missed two chances before halftime but found the net in the 49th minute with a clever lob after Iain Vigurs gave the ball away.
Celtic moved three points clear of Inverness, which lost 4-0 to St. Johnstone. Motherwell, unbeaten in its previous seven games, is third.
