SAO PAULO (AP) Fans upset with Botafogo's struggles in the Brazilian league protested by jeering players and throwing eggs at the team's bus in Rio de Janeiro.
Television images showed a group of about 20 fans confronting the players when they arrived at the airport on Monday, a day after a 2-1 loss to Internacional left the team in danger of missing next year's Copa Libertadores. The fans threw eggs at the bus that was carrying the players from the airport.
Not even star Clarence Seedorf escaped the ire of fans, who demanded better performances from the Dutch midfielder.
The fans also tried to invade the team's stadium but were stopped by police.
Botafogo has won only once in five matches, dropping from second to fourth on the table.
