SEVILLE, Spain (AP) Last-place Real Betis has fired coached Pepe Mel after a poor start to the Spanish league season.
Betis president Miguel Guillen says "it's a tough decision but we needed a change of dynamics and results."
Betis says former Villarreal coach Juan Carlos Garrido, who led Belgian side Club Brugge more recently, will take over until the end of the season.
Betis has 10 points from 15 games, although the club has reached the second round of the Europa League with one game to spare.
Mel, the second Spanish league coach to lose his job this season, took charge in 2010, earning Betis promotion to the top division.
