NYON, Switzerland (AP) UEFA has opened a disciplinary case against Swiss champion Basel after abseiling environmental activists briefly stopped play during its Champions League match against Schalke.
Four protesters descended from the main stand roof in the sixth minute on Tuesday to unfurl a banner targeting Russian oil and gas giant Gazprom, a sponsor of Schalke and the Champions League.
UEFA says Basel is charged with "insufficient organization" at the match, which Schalke won 1-0.
Host clubs are responsible for security at stadiums and ensuring matches run smoothly.
UEFA says its disciplinary panel will judge the case on Oct. 17.
