AMSTERDAM (AP) AZ Alkmaar advanced to the Europa League on the away-goals rule despite losing 2-0 to Greek side Atromitos Athinon in a match that was completed Friday after being halted due to a fire in AZ's stadium Thursday night.
The match in Alkmaar was abandoned after an hour with Atromitos leading 1-0. When the match resumed Friday morning, Thanassis Karagounis added another goal in the 75th minute, but AZ held on to ensure progress thanks to its 3-1 first-leg win in Greece last week.
Nobody was injured in Thursday's fire, which knocked out the stadium lighting.
AZ played almost the entire match with 10 men after midfielder Markus Henriksen was sent off in just the second minute for a foul on Javier Umbides.
