AMSTERDAM (AP) Dutch club AZ Alkmaar has appointed veteran coach Dick Advocaat to replace Gertjan Verbeek, who was fired last month.
AZ says Advocaat has agreed to a contract until the end of the season with the club he previously led from 2009-10. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 66-year-old Advocaat has previously coached clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Rangers and Zenit St. Petersburg and the national teams of the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Belgium and Russia.
AZ is ninth in the league after nine rounds. Advocaat's first match in charge will be against SC Cambuur on Sunday.
