Auckland City FC’s latest Club World Cup campaign has lasted one game after going down to Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad FC 3-0 at the King Abdulaziz Stadium in Jeddah.
Making their 11th appearance at a Club World Cup, Auckland City were always going to be up against it facing a host featuring the likes of World Cup winner Karim Benzema, N’golo Kante and Fabinho.
Al Ittihad scored their three goals within a 12-minute passage in the opening half with both Kante and Benzema getting on the scoresheet and Romarinho opening the scoring.
