Emotions boiled over towards the end of the All Whites World Cup qualifier against New Caledonia last night with the hosts' captain sent off after an ugly head butt on Ryan Thomas.
The scores were level at 0-0 in the 82nd minute and the All Whites seemed content to keep it that way - considering they had won the reverse fixture at home 2-0.
However, New Caledonia grew increasingly frustrated and after a foul was called on captain Bertrand Kai, that's when the tension burst.
Thomas appears to have exchanged some words with Kai before the captain thrust his head towards the All White, earning himself an instant red card.
New Zealand were disappointed to go home without the win but will be content with four points as they look towards their next qualifying match for the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
