Soccer: All Whites need more matches - Sumner

Former All Whites captain Steve Sumner believes the All Whites should be playing more international football, not less.

The All Whites were hampered by injuries as well as players without much game time for their matches against Mexico and Australia.

Striker Shane Smeltz believes New Zealand shouldn't be playing during the offseason.

But Sumner says despite the poor results, there wasn't any shortage of players who put their hands up for more international football.

Sumner says continued game time for the All Whites is vital ahead of the qualifying campaign for the 2014 Football World Cup.
