The All Whites could be without Winston Reid for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Fiji after he limped off the field during West Ham's 3-2 Premier League loss to champions Leicester City.
Reid left the field after going down off the ball with what appeared to be a knee injury in the 18th minute.
"It doesn't look good with Winston," West Ham coach Slaven Bilic said, noting that he will be assessed over the coming days and that the club hope to have him back after the international break.
That indicates that, barring a quick recovery, Reid will be unlikely to take the All Whites captain's armband in the two qualifiers against Fiji, which will be played this Saturday and next Tuesday.
