The All Whites will be travelling to Oman without one of their most experienced players.
Striker Shane Smeltz has been ruled out of this week's international clash due to a low grade groin injury.
The 51-cap New Zealand forward picked up the injury in Sydney FC's 0-0 draw with the Brisbane Roar last Friday in Sydney.
All Whites coach Anthony Hudson said losing Smeltz on the eve of the trip is a blow but it offers the chance for other players to step forward.
"It's tough to lose Shane at this point because on and off the field he's a key part of our team," Hudson said.
"The injury is only expected to keep him out for a few days but it was too much of a risk to fly to Oman where he was unlikely to participate.
"But his absence will provide the opportunity for other members of the squad to put their hand up and gain valuable experience against a top-level opponent."
The All Whites meet Oman on Friday 13 November at 3am (NZ time) with the game now being played at the Al Seeb Stadium in Muscat.
