Marco Rojas will be moving from Germany in the January transfer window - but is set to remain in Europe, with Switzerland or Spain his most likely destinations.
The All Whites winger is at German second division club SpVgg Greuther Furth, on loan from VFB Stuttgart, but has endured an unhappy spell there - he's yet to start a first team match and hasn't even made the bench in recent weeks.
Rojas will almost certainly be moving on and clubs in Switzerland (first division) and Spain (second division) have expressed an interest in the 23-year-old. He's likely to remain under contract with Stuttgart, with the most probable option a loan deal until the end of this season. Any deal needs to be finalised by the end of next month, before the transfer window closes.
The Swiss league is a high level - look at Basel's recent performances in the Champions League - though not at the same intensity as Germany. Switzerland was also the entry point for Wynton Rufer's European career. He was there during 1982-89, scoring more than 90 goals for FC Zurich, FC Aarau and Grasshopper Zurich.
Spain would also appeal. The game in the Iberian country suits technical players like Rojas and he is fluent in Spanish.
