Football: Anthony Hudson's move to MLS club Colorado Rapids a 'done deal'

Anthony Hudson could be gone from New Zealand in a matter of days.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Hudson wouldn't be continuing in his role with the All Whites, after their World Cup dream came to an end in Lima last week.

The Herald understands that his contract with the Colorado Rapids is essentially a 'done deal', and Hudson could be on his way to the United States as soon as this weekend.

Hudson is in the final stages of negotiations with the MLS club, but it's unlikely that anything could derail those at this late stage.

As first reported by Goal.com last month, the Rapids identified Hudson as their preferred candidate to take over from interim head coach Steve Cooke, after the poor end to their previous MLS season.

Around that time Rapids sporting director Padraig Smith even mentioned that their search had been a worldwide one, including Oceania.

"We wanted to be true to our commitment to make this a global search," Smith told a Colorado radio station. "So we went out to Europe, we went to South America, Oceania. We really conducted a very thorough search to make sure we got the right person."

If Hudson's appointment is confirmed, the 36-year-old will face a massive repair job at Colorado.

The team endured a dismal 2017 MLS season, losing 19 of their 34 matches.

They finished second from bottom in the Western Conference, and across the 22 team league only two teams (LA Galaxy and D.C. United) accumulated fewer points than the Rapids.
