The All Whites have ended their North American tour on a high, drawing 1-1 with the United States in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.
Following on from the credible 2-1 defeat to Mexico last Sunday, this was another performance full of grit and skill.
It is also the first time the All Whites have avoided defeat against the World No 22 ranked USA team, after losing their two previous encounters in 1999 and 2003.
Monty Patterson forced home New Zealand's goal from close range in the 73rd minute, after American winger Julian Green had opened the scoring just after the half hour.
Patterson had two other gilt edged chances - one from three yards out after two minutes - and Chris Wood was a constant threat in an inspired performance from the Leeds striker.
