Germany will meet Mali in the Fifa U20 World Cup quarterfinal following their 1-0 win over Nigeria in Christchurch tonight.
The European champions dominated possession and attacks on goal but were only able to break through once, when Levin Oeztunal scored in the 19th minute.
Ultimately, Frank Wormuth's side were deserved winners against the Group E runners-up and while the Africans could not be faulted for effort, their inability to create meaningful chances proved to be their undoing.
Germany will now stay in Christchurch as they prepare for their quarterfinal against Mali, who convincingly beat Ghana 3-0 on Wednesday.
