Birkenhead United have claimed their first Chatham Cup in dramatic circumstances, blowing a two-goal lead against Waitakere City before claiming the trophy in extra time.
Ethan Galbraith was the hero for Birkenhead at QBE Stadium, turning in a 111th-minute winner after Waitakere goalkeeper Ross Nicholson had failed to claim a routine cross.
The former All White's error was magnified by the efforts of his opposite, with the goal coming moments after Birkenhead No 1 Damian Hirst had repelled Steven MacDonald when the scores were still level.
Any other result, though, would have been supremely cruel to Birkenhead, with the North Shore club dominating much of the match as they sought to lift to Chatham Cup for the first time in their history. And for the first 85 minutes, that outcome had appeared straightforward.
Striker Jarrod Smith opened the scoring with a composed finish midway through the opening spell, doubling his side's lead with a tap-in following some deficient defending just before the break.
