Fishing: Track to Duncansby and drop a bomb for fish of all shapes

This surfcasting spot is on the western headland of Stanmore Bay on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula north of Auckland. Around 100m down Duncansby Road, off Viponds Road, is a carpark on the right.

Follow the track and stairs down to the flat rocky ledge.

Put a berley bomb in a potato sack, tie to a rock and let it waft around in the wash at your feet.

Cast only about 20 metres straight out over the rocky bottom with a running rig and fresh piper for bait.

The ideal time to fish this spot is early morning or late evening. Perfect conditions are in a southerly wind with no moon.

A safe and easy place to fish for snapper, kingfish and kahawai.
