Musick Point is at the end of a peninsula on the eastern side of the Tamaki River mouth.
Access is through Bucklands Beach, follow the road out to the point past the golf course and walk out onto the rock.
Ideal conditions are in the evening at low tide in a light southwesterly wind. Wade out to the small island off the point, watch the tide and take care not to get stranded.
Fish with 10kg tackle, a 4oz tournament sinker, 1m of 30lb trace and 7/0 hooks baited with half a pilchard or strips of trevally. For the best results you will need to cast 60m out over the foul.
It's a popular spot, producing snapper, trevally and large kahawai. Kingfish are often caught out of a gut on the eastern side of the peninsula at high tide during summer.
Next week's spot: Takapuna.
