A 10.155kg fish caught by Wayne Watson of Weymouth in Auckland was leading contender for the Snapper World Cup after day one of the three-day Furuno contest at Pah Farm on Kawau Island yesterday.
Other day-one bests were a 30.54kg kingfish to Brendon Wilson of Bucklands Beach in Auckland, a 4.83kg trevally to Jason Ashby from Massey, and a 3.69kg kahawai to John Wehrnink from Papatoetoe.
Craig Tucker from Warkworth led the gurnard section with a 1.135kg catch and Trevor Morgan had a 2.52kg john dory.
