Zeno Rock is approximately 1300m south of the David Rocks and is the southern-most pin in the rugged foul surrounding the David Rocks and Maria Island in the Hauraki Gulf.
The main rock comes up to 2.7m and a reef dropping down to 8.2m extends to the north-east. A large area of kelp surrounds the reef and can hold 9-10kg or more of snapper.
This spot can be dynamite on an incoming tide at dusk. Ideal conditions are a northerly wind and an incoming tide. Anchor in 10-12m of water on the north-eastern side and strayline back into the reef structure.
Use a 10-15kg rig, an 80lb trace with two 7/0 hooks and large fresh bait with a sinker if necessary. Slabs of Kahawai or Skipjack work well.
