A grumpy English amateur cricketer has found an unwanted place in history.
Batsman Bryn Darbyshire was given out for handling a no-ball in the Lancashire league match, the first time such a dismissal is believed to have taken place.
After a mis-hit, he picked the ball up drawing an immediate appeal from the South Wilts fielders. A cricket laws expert said the appeal was legitimate but Darbyshire, who plays for Lymington, described it as bad sportsmanship.
"I was taking him (the bowler) apart. They probably wanted to see the back of me," he told The Times.
Darbyshire's dismissal came thanks to a rule requiring him to ask the fielding side first. The only common way batsmen are dismissed from no-balls is via run outs.
