Fifa World Cup: Streets deserted as Brits watch drama unfold

Eerie images have emerged of usually bustling streets that were deserted as millions of Brits watched the drama unfold between England and Columbia at the World Cup this morning.

Fans even flocked from the Centre Court at Wimbledon, where Jenena Ostapenko was playing Katy Dunneto to head elsewhere and catch the Three Lions play.

The ordinarily busy Mall in Westminster was empty as the Union Jack flew on the streets ahead of the big game.

The usually crowded Westminster was also empty, as the Houses of Parliament and Elizabeth Tower were captured with no tourists outside.

In the City, London's Liverpool street was deserted.

Even the M25, known for its congestion, was pictured with barely any cars on it during what is usually rush hour.

The A1 running through County Durham was empty as fans across the north east headed inside and Darlington's supermarkets became alike to a ghost town as their aisles emptied.
