The father of Richmond AFL star Dustin Martin has been thrown out of Australia over gang links.
Australian media is reporting that Shane Martin left Sydney yesterday, bound for Auckland after his visa was cancelled. He is alleged to be a high ranking member of the Rebels motorcycle gang.
Immigration minister Peter Dutton has previously said that Australia would target people involved at "high levels of outlaw motorcycle gangs". The government can cancel visas on character grounds.
It was reported that Shane Martin - a New Zealand citizen - was locked up early last month because he did not meet minimum character requirements for a residency visa.
Dustin Martin, aged 24, was born in Victoria and has an Australian mother. He has had a few off-field problems, being fined $5000 by his club last year after a woman claimed he had threatened her with a chopstick at a Melbourne restaurant.
