School holidays are almost here and the Auckland Regional Council has a fun-filled agenda designed to keep your little monsters occupied.
Starting this weekend, a variety of holiday programmes are happening at regional parks across Auckland.
Head to Waitakere's Arataki Visitor Centre this Sunday from noon to join Fairy Clare on an environmental adventure, learning all about creepy crawlies and butterflies through story and dance.
It's puppet time at the Auckland Botanic Gardens next Wednesday when Kool Kat the puppet lady teaches kids how to make their very own marionette puppet - the session runs from 12.30 to 2.30pm.
On Monday October 1, children can challenge themselves with a confidence building course at Hunua Regional Park, which will include tightropes and monkey poles. The course is open to children aged 7 to 13 and costs $28. To register phone (09) 379 5430.
Or if you're keen on water, head out to Omana Regional Park on Wednesday, October 3 for a two-hour kayak tour of the Hauraki Gulf - cost is $30.
Cycle
Ambury Regional Park in South Auckland is the perfect destination for a weekend bike ride.
Start at the old Mangere Bridge and follow the coastline around the Mangere waterfront to the park.
Once there, enjoy the harbour views and explore the bird sanctuary and working farm.
Playground
With waterfront views, Windsor Reserve in Devonport is a favourite with Shore children, and there's often a bit of a queue for the swings.
The beach, the park and the playground offer plenty of space for kids to run around, while the pohutukawa trees provide plenty of shade in the summer.
