"My mum said I should give modelling a go but I didn't get really confident until I was about 23, when I entered a D1NZ drift queen competition along with about 30 other girls.
"My brother was drifting at the competition and I guess he and a whole lot of his mates voted for me, so I won.
"I've always been a fan of motorsport and my dad is car crazy, so is the whole family. My dad spent five years building up a hot rod. We go to the Beach Hop every year and I've owned a 1954 Ford Anglia and then I bought a 1963 EJ Holden. I love cars."
I asked Amy if being an object of desire to testosterone-fuelled young blokes at a motorsport event had its pitfalls.
"Being looked at as objects is part of what we signed up for, and you do know coming into the job that you're promoting the brand by looking good and guys are going to look at you.
"Once guys come and talk to us, they soon realise we're just everyday girls."
If the girls get hit on a lot they'll say they've got a boyfriend, even if they haven't, because they're doing a job and are not looking to be hooked up with anyone.
If you do come across a pit girl, here's a bluffer's guide to chatting about racing.
Apron
It's not the thing your mother wore in the kitchen which you buried your head in when you couldn't get what you wanted.
It's flat area of a racetrack that separates the track from the infield.
Banking
Is not what business owners do when they take the day's earnings to the bank. It's the angle of the racing surface from the apron to the outside of the track.
Binders
Are not the things you keep your stamp collection or receipts in, they're brakes.
Drafting
Is not being called up to fight in Afghanistan. It's two or more cars running nose to tail to get a tow down a straight.
Fast peddler
Is not last year's Tour de France winner. It's used to describe a driver who's particularly fast.
Flatten it
Not the tree-hugger's suggestion of what to do with boxes before recycling. It's ramming the throttle to the stops to go as fast as possible.
Hooked up
Is not when you've convinced the girl of your dreams to go back to your place. It means getting off the start line with the minimum of wheel spin and a good-handling car.
Kitty litter
Is not the stuff cats pee in (well it is, really, but not in motor-racing terms). It's often called a gravel trap and it's the run-off area on the outside of a corner.
Loose
Don't think it's your lucky night. It's used to describe a car that's not handling properly and moving around a lot.
Marbles
Is not a game you played as a child but used to describe sand, gravel and bits of rubber that collect just off the racing line.
Wrench
A mechanic's tool and not to be confused with a wench, a girl or young woman.
