It was the South Island's day at the national three-day event at Taupo yesterday, with their riders holding the top four spots in the NRM CCI3* class at the National Equestrian Centre.
Emily Cammock of Christchurch has a narrow lead on Dambala, scoring 48 penalties, with Ashburton's Larissa Srhoy a whisker behind on Starburst with 48.4 penalties. Annabel Wigley from Amberley is third on NRM Frog Rock with 54.2, followed by Brent Jury on SE Big with 56 penalties.
The first North Islander, New Plymouth's Heelan Tompkns, lies fifth with Major Difference on 59.4 penalties.
The field was reduced to 11 starters with the late scratching of Donnas Smith's ride Just Chocolate, leaving the North Island team with four riders.
With the best three scores of each team counting, the South Island have a runaway lead at this stage.
