Kiwi equestrian Jock Paget has had his Burghley Horse Trials win disqualified by the FEI Tribunal.
Paget's win has been taken off him as the result of his specific request with the support of Equestrian Sports New Zealand as he waits for his hearing into the positive doping test of his horse Clifton Promise at the event last year.
He doesn't contest the presence of the banned substance in Clifton Promise, but denies he or anyone else knew of it being in his horse before the sample was taken at Burghley.
However, he accepts a rule violation has occurred and has asked for the tribunal to take the unusual step of ruling on his disqualification instead of waiting for next month's hearing.
It effectively clears the way for compatriot Andrew Nicholson to have a chance of winning the Grand Slam.
