New Zealand's proud eventing record received another layer of acclaim with Jonelle Price's fine victory at the Badminton horse trial in Gloucstershire yesterday.
It was the Motueka rider's first four-star victory and takes to 29 the number of titles won by New Zealanders at the six four-star events worldwide.
Mark Todd, to no surprise, started things off by winning at Badminton in 1980 aboard Southern Comfort and Price yesterday became the 10th New Zealander to triumph at the highest level of the sport.
Her husband, Tim, won the Luhmuhlen event in Germany four years ago aboard Wesko.
Jonelle Price was ranked No 2 rider in the world four years ago.
But she confessed at the time, while acknowledging it was a testimony to her ability to perform consistently well, it felt a bit strange being rated ahead of a clutch of four-star champions when she hadn't landed one herself.
