Top New Zealand showjumper Katie McVean will get a chance to qualify for next year's London Olympics after being offered a ride on a leading Dutch horse.
McVean, who celebrates her 25th birthday this weekend, thought her Olympic quest had ended earlier this month after the sale of her mare Dunstan Delphi to Saudi Arabia for a multi-million dollar price tag, but will now head back to Europe in an attempt to qualify for the 2012 Games.
"It's game on again," she said.
McVean will ride Wavantos VD Renvillehoeve, an eight-year-old brown horse who has already gained required qualification of the minimum eligibility standard result for the London Olympics with his previous rider.
"That says he's jumping well and at height," says McVean.
She will compete at the world equestrian festival in Aachen, Germany from July 8-17 with the aim of securing an individual spot for New Zealand at London.
If successful, she would also gain the necessary minimum eligibility standard as a combination with her new horse for possible selection in the New Zealand team.
