Gisborne's Merran Hain won the first qualifying round of the Bomac World Cup series at the Poverty Bay A and P Show.
Hain also shared the champion woman rider of the show award with 21-year-old Sarah Landon-Lane. It was the fourth time Hain has won the Master Burleigh Trophy, but Landon-Lane's first.
The grand prix World Cup qualifying round win kick-started Hain's season into top gear. She and Tregonning finished the course in 43.38s.
Wellington rider Marcus Wild, who finished in 40.81s, was disappointed his mount Telegraph brought down a couple of bars on a jump.
Wild said Telegraph's composure after the knock was excellent. The horse showed style going straight into the next jump.
Simon Wilson, of Central Hawkes Bay, was third riding Swinger.
The Dunstan open pony grand prix 1.25m AM5 was won by Melanie Purcell of Whakatane.
