World champion Blyth Tait has been forced to withdraw his horse Aspyring from the advanced individual section of the Auckland International three-day event at Puhinui.
The 15-year-old gelding was to be retired following this weekend's competition, but Tait has withdrawn the horse prior to the cross-country.
Aspyring is prone to corns and after negotiating the steeple chase course, Tait felt he wasn't 100 per cent sound.
Meanwhile the teams cross-country section is due to get underway later this afternoon.
Mark Todd riding Mighty Heights, Vaughn Jefferis on Bakela and Dan Jocelyn with High Spirits make up the New Zealand team.
