Former world and Olympic champion Blyth Tait's late bid to be in London in July gathers steam in Ireland this weekend.
Tait, who won the individual gold medal at the Atlanta Games in 1996 - as well as two bronze and a silver - and two team and two individual world golds between 1990 and 1998, set out to make a comeback last year.
He's had a rough start but Tait has been working hard with his mount Santos over the English winter.
The combination are competing at Ballindenisk in County Cork, as is promising Huntly rider Lucy Jackson and her horse Animator.
Equestrian Sport New Zealand's high performance director, Sarah Harris, acknowledged 50-year-old Tait was still in the Olympic frame, but had ground to make up on the other leading candidates before the squad of five is named early in July.
