KEY POINTS:
New Zealand were handed victory in the transtasman equestrian trophy after injuries prevented Australia fielding at least three competitors in the final showjumping segment in Taupo yesterday. With one horse eliminated in Saturday's cross-country phase, the Australians, who won the contest last year, needed all three remaining horses to pass veterinary inspection yesterday morning. But they only presented two because one had suffered a stone bruise on the cross-country.
However, Sonja Johnson on Ringwould Jaguar eased Australian disappointment by winning the individual title, having led from day one.
New Zealand team members Matthew Grayling on NRM Gordon and Bryce Newman on Bates Our Questionnaire were second and third.
