England skipper picking White Ferns to go all the way

The White Ferns play West Indies tonight.

England captain Charlotte Edwards believes New Zealand will end Australia's hopes of an incredible fourth straight women's World Twenty20 title.

Edwards' side was ousted by the Southern Stars in a gripping semi-final, with the defending champions getting home by five runs in New Delhi.

Australia also got the better of England in last year's Ashes series, plus the 2012 and 2014 World T20 finals.

But Edwards doesn't believe the current crop of Southern Stars will be good enough to beat the White Ferns in Sunday's decider.

Speaking prior to Thursday's semi-final between NZ and West Indies, Edwards cast doubt on bookmakers' markets that have listed Australia as title favourites.

"New Zealand are probably the favourites going into the final," Edwards said.

"New Zealand beat them in the group game.

"So I think they'll be going in very, very confident."

Edwards' argument has some merit.

The White Ferns have been the form side of the competition, sailing through the group stage undefeated including a six-wicket walloping of Australia.

They also trumped Meg Lanning's side in a trans-Tasman T20 series that preceded the World T20.

"New Zealand have certainly been in very good form and playing some good cricket, against us especially," Lanning said.

"So we're going to have to prepare well if we do come up against them.

"But we're quite good at getting up for big games and really putting our best on the park when it really counts."

Lanning wasn't as quick as Edwards to discount West Indies' hopes of reaching their first final after four consecutive World T20 semi-final exits.

"That (semi) will be a pretty good game," Australia's skipper said.

"We're not really fussed who we come up against.

"It's a World Cup so you're going to have to play against the best.

"Whoever we come up against we're going to have to play really well but we'll be ready for it."

The second semi-final starts at 10pm.
