Tidelines: Snapper limit brings catch down to 10

The reduction in the West Coast recreational bag limit from 15 snapper to 10 will come into force from March 1. The limit, announced late last year, applies to the area known officially as Snapper 8.

It includes all the West Coast including the Hokianga, Kaipara, Manukau and Raglan harbours from North Cape to Tirau Point.

Ministry of Fisheries pamphlets detailing the reduction and recent changes to other fisheries rules are available in most sporting goods, fishing and bait outlets.

The WaterSafe Auckland 2006 Safe Summer campaign is being supported by a website to help spread the message. Director Sandy Harrop says it gives added exposure to outdoor promotions by the Safe Summer team.

The website has essential information for boaties, parents, teachers, new migrants and all those going near water.

A new event for paddlers joins the action tomorrow. The Waitemata canoe multi-sport club will race kayaks and surf-skis from Herald Island to Devonport, starting at noon.
