Markus Goh helped Auckland Grammar come from behind to win the 72-arrow inter-school teams archery final at Nicholson Park over the weekend.
Ten teams from six schools competed in the final having qualified the previous weekend.
Over the past five years, Auckland Grammar and Kings College have battled it out for the title which was again the case this year.
The teams final was divided into quarters, Kings College opened strongly with a 596-point first quarter, 11 points better than Grammar with St Peters a further two points behind.
By halftime Kings, led by experienced club archer Toshi Sekikawa, had increased their lead by nine points over Grammar and St Peters who were tied.
Goh, the day's top scorer, helped Grammar close to within four points with one 18-arrow 25m match to go.
A downpour of rain split the fleet during the final quarter. Grammar coped with the break better than their rivals, coming through with a 53 point win.
Diocesan were the best performed all girls team, finishing fifth.
In the individual competition, Goh won the novice boys' section, Joe Gaffney, also from Grammar, won the boys' open recurve section, while Baradene's Marissa Gloyne won the girls' novice section.
Two more events are scheduled at the end of terms two and three.

Kings College were crowned Auckland Gillette Cup representatives, beating St Kentigern College in the final by 131 runs at Eden Park.
Kings batted first and scored a tidy 215, thanks to a solid innings from Jonathon Bassett-Graham, who scored 66.
When Bassett-Graham was dismissed at 140-5 the Kings innings was looking shaky, but all-rounder Tim Southee's 45 steered them towards 200.
The St Kents bowlers applied the pressure throughout the innings, with Nick Seymour (3-28) and Jono Hickey (2-20) providing the best returns.
Chasing 215, St Kents reply was steady, as they worked their way to 50 for the loss of only one wicket.
However, the introduction of left arm spinner Chris Goldsbury resulted in three rapid lbws and they collapsed from 50-1 to 56-8.
In the end, St Kents was dismissed for 84 in 19.5 overs, giving Kings a comfortable 131 run win.
