Christchurch schoolteacher Dale Eagar will join the Hillary Commission as its junior sport manager on October 30.
Eagar, who is head of the physical education department at Linwood High and has 26 years' teaching experience, will replace Simon Wickham.
Wickham has resigned from the position to become chief executive officer of Yachting New Zealand.
Eagar has a strong background in administration, and his sporting credentials include coaching the New Zealand under-19 men's softball team to a world title.
He is also a former assistant coach of the senior men's softball side.
He is now the chairman of the Softball New Zealand board.
"Dale is ideal for this key position," Hillary Commission chief executive Peter Dale said.
"He brings vast experience to the Hillary Commission, especially in helping clubs and schools to come together to help young people."
