Darts great Phil Taylor added to his legacy in the sport today after winning his 16th world championship title by defeating Holland's Michael van Gerwen in the final at London's Alexandra Palace.
In a thrilling encounter, Taylor fought back from a 2-0 set deficit to tie it up at 2-2 before van Gerwen once again took control of the match.
The Dutchman, playing in his first ever final, won the next two sets to take a 4-2 lead but he couldn't hold off a surging Taylor who won the final five straight sets to win the match 7-4.
Taylor, who won his first title in 1990, hinted at retirement earlier this week after reaching his 19th world championship final.
