All Blacks great Daniel Carter has received the prestigious Academie des Sports grand prize award in France overnight.
Carter, currently playing his second season with Top 14 Parisian side Racing 92, is the first New Zealander to receive the award which is for the greatest sporting achievement of the year as voted by the Academie des Sports.
Carter was named World Rugby player of the year, player of the match in the 2015 Rugby World Cup final and helped lead Racing to the Top 14 title.
Previous winners of the award include Usain Bolt, Sebastian Vettel, Steffi Graf, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Michael Schumacher.
