From a 12-a-day diet Coke habit to the coach sacked twice by the same team, Daily Shorts looks at the light-hearted side of sport.
Daly habit
Everyone's favourite jolly golfer John Daly has opened up in an interview with the Guardian which provides some interesting tidbits. First off, he revealed he is home-schooling his son John Jnr. Would love to know what each lesson entails. Daly, who still smokes 40 cigarettes a day, also said he's cut down his diet Coke habit from 26-28 a day to "10-12 at the most". At least it's less than one a hole during a round of golf.
"The band won't allow me to drink as many. If I don't have ice, I can't drink it. I can't have it straight because of the carbonation. I have to drink it slowly and not out of a can, I need some ice." he said. Someone's begging for an endorsement deal.
Coach sacked twice in one season
There's still hope for Matt Elliott yet. Italian side have Catania sacked the same coach for a second time this season. The Serie A's cellar dwellers fired, or did he resign?, Rolandro Maran yesterday after earlier giving him the sack in October following a poor start to the season. He was reinstated in January only to be axed again after the side's 2-1 loss to Torino in the weekend which left them seven points from safety. That means Catania will have their third coach this season.
Fighting for charity
The annual FDNY-NYPD charity ice hockey has been going for 41 years but this year's edition may be the first time it's included a benches clearing brawl.
"New York's Bravest" and "New York's Finest" delayed the action for more than 20 minutes after dropping gloves and putting up their dukes. Sections of the crowd also chanted "FD sucks", "PD sucks" and "Dunkin' Donuts".
