Spanish Vuelta winner Chris Horner is out for the rest of the year with broken ribs.
The American rider was injured in a high-speed pileup in the road race at the world championships in Italy on Sunday.
The Radioshack Leopard Trek team says on Tuesday that Horner's season is over and he will miss the Giro di Lombardia in Italy and the Tour of Beijing.
Horner says "it's sad that I can't finish my season on a good note in Lombardy or China."
Horner won the Vuelta two weeks ago at the age of 41 to become the oldest winner of a Grand Tour the trio of races that also includes the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia.
