MANCHESTER, England (AP) Chris Froome and Bradley Wiggins, the last two Tour de France champions, will headline the British men's team at the road world championships this month.
Froome became the second British rider to win the Tour after succeeding Sky teammate Wiggins, who missed the three-week race this year due to injury and illness.
Froome, bidding to add the rainbow jersey to his collection, will be the team leader in the road race. The British federation said Tuesday that Wiggins would contest the time trial event alongside Alex Dowsett.
American rider Greg Lemond is the last cyclist to complete the Tour-worlds double in 1989.
The world championships will be held in Florence, Italy, from Sept. 22-29.
