Jeremy Yates won the 160km Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge on Saturday just days after being banned for two years by Belgian cycle authorities for having abnormally high levels of testosterone.
The ban doesn't start until Thursday, meaning there was nothing stopping him from lining up in Taupo.
Yates' win was greeted by a notable lack of applause and even some booing at the presentation ceremony, one of his fellow riders said.
Yates, 22, defended his presence, saying it was an event he'd always wanted to win but had never been fit enough for.
