Former world junior cycling champion Jeremy Yates continued his return to top form by winning Coromandel's K2 cycle classic yesterday.
Returning to competition after serving a two-year ban imposed by the Belgian Cycling Union after he tested positive for abnormally high levels of testosterone in Belgium in March 2004, Yates, riding for the Subway team, outlasted fellow New Zealander Jeremy Venell, riding for the American Bissell/Sram team, at the finish of the 200km race. The women's title went to Auckland's Sarah Murdoch.
