New Zealand BMX rider Marc Willers has maintained his bold start to the United States championship series.
The Californian-based Willers won both finals in the latest round of the American BMX Association Nationals at Chula Vista near San Diego yesterday.
Those results saw Willers, originally from Cambridge, extend his series lead after posting six wins from 10 starts.
He won all motos and a semifinal in the opening round, jumping strongly out of the gate in the final to grab the lead into the first bend. From there Willers controlled the race to finish clear of Americans Dave Merman and Nic Long.
The second round was a carbon copy with a perfect lead-up into the final where he nailed the start to dominate, clearing out from Australians Khalen Young and Sam Willoughby.
"I felt super relaxed on the gate and felt like things were going to go to plan, and that they did," Willers said.
"That now gives me six wins, a second and a third. We are only four months into the year and I already enough points to be up for the Pro Title that isn't decided until November."
